The Pact for the Future strengthens global efforts to achieve SDG 4 by focusing on expanding digital access in education. Through initiatives like Giga, Quality Education which aims to connect 100% of schools to the internet, the world is working to close the digital divide. The initiative also promotes digital literacy, enhances teacher training, and directs education funding toward bridging learning gaps.
By ensuring equitable, future-ready education systems, we can prepare students for a rapidly evolving world.
SDG 4 in Numbers
While progress has been made, the numbers show that much more needs to be done:As of 2019, only 58% of students worldwide achieved a minimum proficiency in reading.
To meet national education targets by 2030, Quality Education countries must enroll 1.4 million children in early education each year and admit a new student every two seconds until 2030.Girls are leading the way in education—globally, their completion rates exceed those of boys by 2 to 3 percentage points in both primary and secondary levels.However, access remains a challenge—only half of primary schools and 62% of secondary schools have basic infrastructure for students with disabilities.
