The UN Economic and Social Council annual Sustainable World Partnership Forum on February 5, 2025, at the UN Headquarters in New York, bringing together governments, organizations, and stakeholders to exchange ideas, set preference, and explore innovative ways to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The discussions focused on mobilizing commitments and tackling new global challenges through strategic partnerships.This year’s theme,  Advancing Sustainable, Inclusive, Science- and Evidence-Based Solutions for the 2030 Agenda,’ highlight the importance of collaboration in achieving key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The forum specifically highlighted SDG 3 (good health and well-being), SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 14 (life below water), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals) ahead of their review at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2025 in July.

The Power of Partnerships in Achieving SDGsECOSOC President Bob Rae opened the forum by reinforcing the role of partnerships as a driving force for global progress. He pointed to successful collaborations such as:The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, utilization, and Malaria (GFATM): Since 2002, it has raised over $65 billion, saving more than 50 million lives across 100 countries.

The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data: A network of over 700 organizations working in 35+ countries, helping governments and stakeholders use data to make informed health policies and investment decisions.

These partnerships are not just tools but essential pillars for Sustainable World achieving the SDGs,” Rae stated. “By working together across sectors and leveraging our strengths, we can amplify impact, drive progress, and ensure that no one is left behind.

A Collective Effort for a Better Future The Sustainable World forum was shaped by a broad range of stakeholders, including members of the Multi-stakeholder consultative Group, global online discussion, and SDG action segments.

These efforts ensured a diverse and inclusive approach to Sustainable World problem-solving.To ensure the outcomes of the discussions inform future policymaking, the ECOSOC President and Bureau will prepare a joint summary capturing key policy recommendations. At the 2025 ECOSOC Partnership Forum, leaders, policymakers, and organizations gathered to explore how partnerships can accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
