Through its SDG 8 action, the university is mobilizing researchers, policymakers, and institutions across continents to address critical economic and labor challenges. This action is part of the IAU Global Cluster on Higher Education for Sustainable Development (HESD), a collective effort to enhance knowledge-sharing and expertise in sustainable development.

About the SDG 8 action
The International Association of Universities (IAU)Sustainable Growth launched the IAU Global Cluster on HESD in 2019 to foster collaboration between higher education institutions focused on sustainable development. The cluster consists of 17 subclusters, each dedicated to a specific Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), led by a primary institution and supported by satellite universities worldwide.

The University of Gothenburg leads the SDG 8 subcluster, coordinating efforts to explore economic growth strategies, labor rights, and employment policies. The Sustainable Growth initiative is structured around two core working groups:

An interdisciplinary research group consisting of experts from various faculties at the university.

A global network of soldier universities spanning Africa, South Sustainable Growth America, and Asia, contributing localized insights and research.

This network fosters cross-border knowledge Sustainable Growth exchange, ensuring that solutions to economic productivity, labor protection, and sustainable tourism are both research-driven and applicable in diverse global contexts.
